Windows Socket 2 Update (September 10, 1996)

The main focus of this web page is to provide a mechanism whereby earlier versions of the Elementary Report Card program can be upgraded to the latest version. Detailed steps for installing this application are provided on the Resources web page.

It is recommended that users "bookmark" or make a "favourite" of this web page so that they can always return here to check if they are using the latest version of the Elementary Report Card software. Only if you are using the LATEST version of this report card  software can you be assured that you have the product with the most features and improvements.

bullet

To determine the version of the report card software currently installed:

It is recommended that users always compare the version number on any previously installed Elementary Report Card program software (at school or at home) with the most recent update indicated below. If the  software has  been installed on the computer already, logon at school as "Teacher" (with the appropriate password) and start the program by clicking on the following:  "Start" button, "Programs", "Elementary Report Card", and "Elementary Report Card" menu items. When the first main menu screen loads, look for the current version number which is located just below The Winnipeg School Division logo of the installed software. If this version number differs (in either number or letter) from the latest update noted below, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that the software be upgraded.

**WARNING ** WARNING ** WARNING **

BEFORE UPGRADING EXISTING ELEMENTARY
 REPORT CARD SOFTWARE

PLEASE REMEMBER to use the "Save Report Data" button on the main menu and the "Save all report card information to a floppy diskette ..." button under the "Save Student Information" screen BEFORE running the following "Full Install" upgrade. If you choose to upgrade the version number of your current software without first backing up your data to a floppy, ALL STUDENT, TEACHER, CLASS INFORMATION AND PERSONAL DICTIONARY DATA ON THE COMPUTER'S INTERNAL HARD DRIVE WILL BE ERASED.

**WARNING ** WARNING ** WARNING **

Educators must realize that if they have started entering teacher, student or class data into the Elementary Report Card program in the current school year, this information is stored on the computer's internal hard drive. If one attempts to upgrade the software on this same computer (without backing up the report card teacher, student or class data on a new floppy diskette), ALL REPORT CARD DATA ON THE COMPUTER WILL BE DESTROYED during the upgrade or full install process.

bulletUpgrade History:
bullet 3.9b CAP - (Oct. 14-05) This new version is exactly the same as
Version 3.9b with the additional CAP Template Pilot
enhancement which each administrator can choose to
           adopt for her/his school.
bullet 3.9b - (Nov. 12-04) Changes made to correct reading student
data from a CD.  Teachers SHOULD NOT use a CD rather
than a floppy diskette or USB memory stick to transport
          data between home and school.
bullet 3.9a - (Oct. 7-04) Changes to Program Type (R, A, & M) can
now be made using a built-in pull-down menu option.
Teachers of Adapted or Modified students no longer
need to make  entries in pen on report card after printing.
bullet 3.8a - Grammatical changes in the Academic Performance
Scale descriptors necessitated upgrades as a minimum
on all computers which are used to print
final copies of reports to parents.
bullet 3.8 -  October 2003 began with several improvements
including a built-in "Format" routine, separate
"Open" and "Save" screens with storage flexibility
and a collated printing of Checklists and Anecdotals.
Very little change will be required for past users.
bullet 3.5a - October 2002 began with a new "hard copy" report
card layout which necessitated a change to our
Elementary Report Card software. Very little change
will be required for past users.
bullet 3.0j - Rather than printing a blank entry, this patch now
previews and prints the correct entry in the
"Printing/handwriting skills" field in the Grades 1-5
          Language Arts English version.
bullet 3.0i - Added Teacher & Principal/Vice-Principal Signature line at
bottom of "June Statement" and corrected problem
caused when Grade 6, Term 3, Social Studies
          percentage was over-writing the corresponding
          Science mark on Print/Preview.
bullet 3.0h - corrected problem that comments in Common Program
Summary were not propagated through entire class.
bullet 3.0g - provided an integrated data "repair" feature and
            improvements recommended by educators following
            the Term 1 reporting process.
bullet 3.0f - this version never existed.
bullet 3.0e - corrected an import problem with previous releases.
bullet 3.0d - corrects the Mathematics "Geometry and Measurement"
          descriptors.
bullet3.0c - corrects the second Science checklist description. An
optional "Late" field has been added to the
          Classroom/Teacher information screen.
bullet3.0b - provides administration with a way to enter an optional,
standard, local school title to describe a "Common
Program Summary" for all students. An anomaly was
corrected so that spell checking would scan all students'
anecdotal portions rather than having to scan
          individual students.
bullet3.0a - Original single CD distributed to schools
