File
name: ELEMENTARYREPORTMANUAL3-5A.pdf
Approximate File
Size: 2.1 MB
Brian Metcalfe, of Technology Education, has prepared and distributed the
"Elementary Report Card Grades 1-6 Stand-Alone" manual. Although
this manual was originally created using
Publisher, it is available for download off this web page in Adobe's portable document format
(PDF). Users, who download the manual in this format, can use their

one can also print out the manual without requiring Publisher (on which it
was originally created) or a laser printer.

drive, one can click on the above report manual link. If the free Adobe
Acrobat Reader software is installed on your computer, the manual will
start to transfer to your computer and will automatically appear in the

installed, it will be necessary to click on the Adobe link below and
select the free download of the reader from the Adobe site. Once the
reader software is installed on your computer, you can click on the link at the start of this section to transfer the
manual in portable document format (PDF) to your computer. From the
Adobe link below, please select and download the current Acrobat Reader
with Search and Accessibility. Ensure that it is English for Windows 95,

One page of directions for Internet "full install"
|
Steve Broda-Milian, from Stanley Knowles School, prepared
the following one-page set of explicit directions for his staff to
download a "Full Installation" of this software over the Internet. This
same page of directions is available in four different file formats to
accommodate all users. Based on the word processor which you use most,
click on one of the files below and save it to your hard drive. Open the
downloaded file with your word processor of choice and print the one page
download directions for reference.

 | Steps for Installing the Elementary Report Card CD |
This set of instructions is written to assist installation on The
Winnipeg School Division No. 1 computers. Regardless of whether the
Elementary Report Card software is being installed by downloading it off
the Internet, from a CD or from a series of floppy diskettes, the
installation on school computers MUST be done at the "TEACHER" level.
Installation on a home
machine is similar but may not require all of the steps in this
installation.
1. If DeepFreeze is running, make certain to "thaw" the
computer first. Logon to a Windows 95 or Windows 98 workstation as the user “Teacher”
with the appropriate password.
Change the resolution to 800 x 600 (any amount of colours) by
completing the following steps: In the System Tray (extreme bottom right corner of the screen),
find the small icon that resembles a monitor. Click once on this icon.
The user should see a listing of possible settings for the video card
in the computer. If you need to change the display settings, choose
the appropriate setting and if prompted to “Apply the settings
without restarting?”, click on the “OK” button. (Once you
have launched the Display icon the first time, the user may place a
check in the box beside “Don’t ask this question again”
and this prompt will not appear on subsequent changes.) Wait a few
seconds (you will see a black screen) and the settings’ adjustments
will be made.
Note: Make sure you change your settings before launching any
software.
640X480 256 colors – means 640 pixels in width by 480 in length
and 256 colors
800X600 256 colors – means 800 pixels in width by 600 in length
and 256 colors
16 bit color indicates 64,000 colors
24 bit color indicates 16 million colors
32 bit color indicates 16 million colors
2. Insert the Elementary Report Card CD in the CD-ROM drive.
3. Make sure no other software is running when you do any installation.
4. Click on Start | Run | and enter “D:\setup.exe” (without quotes
- where D is the name of your CD-ROM drive) in the “Open” field.
Click the “OK” button.
5. At the prompt “This will install Elementary Report Card. Do you
wish to continue?”, click on the “Yes” button.
6. When the “Elementary Report Card Setup Wizard” welcome screen is
displayed,
close any open programs as advised and click on the “Next” button.
7. When the “Select Additional Tasks” window is displayed,
one can choose to “Create a desktop icon” and/or “Create a Quick
Launch icon”.
Click to place a checkmark in the options you wish to install.
Educators installing this software at home may wish to install a “Quick
Launch” icon (which will appear at the bottom of the screen immediately
to the right of the “Start” buttons).
Such “Quick Launch” icons only require a single click to launch
programs.
Click on the “Next” button to proceed.
8. The “Ready to Install” window will confirm which additional tasks
have been selected.
Click on the “Install” button to proceed.
9. A horizontal progress bar will display as the Elementary Report Card
components are installed.
10. When prompted that “Setup has finished installing Elementary Report
Card on your computer”,
click on the “Finish” button which will launch the software by
default. If one removes
the checkmark beside “Launch Elementary Report Card” and clicks the
“Finish” button, the
software can be installed so that a user will be able to launch the
program with any of the
following three ways:
A. As menu items: Start | Programs | Elementary Report Card |Elementary
Report Card;
B. Desktop shortcut; or
C. Quick Launch icon.
If the computer is to be used by students, logout of the "Teacher" mode
and login as a "Student".
Lastly if DeepFreeze is installed, make certain to "freeze" the
computer as the last step.

 | Elementary Report Card Installation On Diskettes |
Educators whose microcomputer does not have Internet access nor a
CD-ROM drive have up until now been out-of-luck. However Patrick Logan,
from Educational Technology, has recently compressed the latest version of
the Elementary Report Card software on to a sequence of five diskettes.
Directions: Educators wishing to acquire these five compressed
diskettes will need to have a colleague gain access to the Internet and
download and copy/save the files, which follow, on to five diskettes
keeping the EXACT same file name and structure. Click on the six files
below and save them (with the EXACT same name to one's hard drive). Next
copy the six files to five formatted floppy diskettes making certain that BOTH "setup.exe"
and "setup.001" are copied to the first diskette.
Elementary Report Card Software on disk - Version 4.0a
MANDATORY UPGRADE
It is assumed that the computer without Internet access and no CD-ROM
drive has sufficient power to run the Elementary Report Card software. As
a minimum, one needs a Pentium computer running either Windows 95, 98,
2000 Professional or NT 4.0 with at least 16MB of RAM.
The installer should insert Disk 1(with the two files on it) into the
computer and execute the "setup.exe" file on the floppy by double clicking on it.
Alternatively, one can clicks the "Start/Run" menu items, enter "A:setup.exe"
(without quotes) into the "Open" field and click the "OK" button to start
the extraction process. The self-extracting archive, which spans the five
diskettes, will prompt the user to install each of the remaining four
diskettes in sequence. Once the last diskette has been extracted, one can
then proceed with the standard Elementary Report Card installation.
