According to the Wolseley Parent Council constitution, its purpose is to:

Improve communication between the home and school

bullet

Assist in supporting school activities

bullet

Represent parents and students in the development of all aspects of school life

More specifically, the constitution also includes these functions:

Cooperate in establishing programs for parents/guardians through which they may become informed of school activities

bullet

Develop activities to enhance learning, foster understanding among neighbourhood groups and create a safe neighbourhood

bullet

Discuss and provide input into staffing allocations, budget formation and expenditures, building utilization, development of yearly school plans

bullet

Provide input on school policy, procedures, curriculum, finance and facilities

bullet

Contribute to a sense of community

bullet

Communicate educational information and special events to parents/guardians

bullet

Initiate adult activities in the school and community

bullet

Advocate on behalf of the school

The Parent Council is elected annually and consists of executive officers, classroom representatives, committee representatives and members at large. Each school year a number of positions become available. Some positions are on-going for a September-June term and require participation at the monthly Parent Council meetings. All parents are welcome to attend and participate in monthly meetings.

Other positions are event specific, meaning that anyone from the parent community, while they may not be interested in attending the meetings, are welcome to help coordinate one or more of the Parent Council projects/events.

The Wolseley School community has a long history of working collaboratively in maintaining a strong educational program. Each year the parent council and school staff develop initiatives to:

Identify and integrate resources and services from the community to strengthen school programs, family practices, and student learning and development

bullet

Provide information and ideas to families about how to help children at home with homework and other curriculum related activities, decisions and planning

bullet

Include parents/guardians in school decisions, developing parent/guardian leaders and representatives.
