The YMCA-YWCA Wolseley Before, Lunch and After School Program:
is up and running at the school. There are open spots in all of these programs. For more information please call 479-2691.

Wolseley Playgroup and Parent Resource Centre: The Wolseley Playgroup is back in full force. Our “Activity Based” playgroup is community based and is run by volunteers. We meet on Tuesday Afternoons (1:00 p.m.—3:30 p.m.) and Thursday Mornings (9:00 a.m.—11. 30 a.m.). Stop in and have some fun. Take a look at our “Parent Resource Centre” in the school library when you have a moment. This is an area to come and use the facilities and a place for you and your child(ren). If you have any questions or concerns please call Juanita Froese at 775-5110.

Library News: We have recently purchased a Library Automation System called L4U. This software package will allow students and adults to scan a book out of the Library and will help the Library staff to have quick access to all records. We will spend this school year preparing the Library for the automation which will take effect in September 2005.

Outdoor Classroom: The Parent Council has agreed to hire the services of Heather Cram, landscape architect to prepare a concept plan for an outdoor classroom where the old tennis courts are. Heather and an associate will be meeting with the teachers and parent council members on Tuesday January 11 at 4:00 PM to begin exploring ideas of what we would like to see in that space. This will be followed by an outdoor classroom committee meeting taking at the school on January 26 at 6:30 PM. If you are at all interested in participating in this committee, please e-mail Harold Shuster at harold@policyalternatives.ca or phone him at 774-2217.

Tropical Fish Club: Margaret LeMaitre, a grandmother of one of our children at Wolseley School approached me a year ago with the idea of forming a tropical fish club for the students at our school. The purpose of the club would be to help children learn about the hobby of caring for tropical fish, taking care of the fish tank, understanding the ecology of a fresh water environment including plants and animals (fish, snails, etc.) and researching information about tropical fish and the nitrogen cycle.

Through Margaret’s persistence, and with the help of Paul Fisher, another parent of children at the school, this club is becoming a reality. We are purchasing a large 100 gallon fish tank (72”Lx18”Wx20”H) from the Fish Gallery. It will be placed in the Parent Resource Centre of the Library beside the hallway window.

Children in grades 4-6 will have an opportunity to join this club which will take place over the lunch hour once a cycle. Notices will be sent out in the near future.
