Greetings from the Family Room - January 2008 Welcome Back! We would first like to say hello and Happy New Year to each of you! We also wanted to extend a huge THANK YOU to those of you that generously donated items to our December Yard Sale and the Bake Sale. It was touching to hear the students comments - WOW-COOL-NEAT when they came into the room. A special thanks to all the volunteers that gave their time during the two day event. We also appreciated the help from the School Council volunteers—Alvin, A.R., Braxton, Bryan, Ian, Jhorina—Good Job! Also, thanks go out to Kevin as he helped out with making the treat dishes. Awesome! Last month many caregivers/guardians and parents asked for more programming in the Family Room for 2008. We listened, and invite you to join us for the following scheduled activities: Leisure – Creative Arts, School & Community – Families, Cuisine – Hands-On Cooking and Healthy Living – Families. On Thursday afternoons we also hope that you will join us in the Family Room to watch films on different subjects – family, healthy living and safety. We expect lots of lively talk after the films! Remember everyone is welcome in the Family Room – through your ideas we are collectively strengthening our families and building our community. May we celebrate our differences. What is the Family Room all about? A circle of parents who provide support for each other to strengthen our families and to enhance learning for our children.
A circle of parents who provide support and guidance for our school and to enhance learning for our children.
How do we do this?
Ensure a SAFE place for EVERY parent in this school to come for rest, renewal and resources.
Our circle is safe because we RESPECT every parent in the circle, and their right to be here.
We recognize the COURAGE each has to raise their families in these difficult times.
We HONOUR each other’s strengths.
We have HUMILITY to ask for guidance from each other.
We have the COURAGE to speak our TRUTH, but always in the the spirit of LOVE.
We grow in WISDOM – knowing when to speak, and HUMILITY – knowing that “It does not require many words to speak the truth”. TRUTH needs no defence.
Our Family Room is a CIRCLE – our COMMUNITY.
KEEP THE CIRCLE STRONG
