T.H.I.N.K. - Treasure Hunt, Internet 'n' Kids Background - Brian Metcalfe, a.k.a. "Buccaneer Brian", has designed this on-line project using a pirate theme and treasure hunt. It's objective is to engage students in learning their basic compass directions and map coordinate skills to meet the curriculum goals in the Grade 4 Social Studies and Mathematics areas. Those contemplating registering a class in this project are encouraged to explore the project activities and then register on-line and/or pass the project on to other potential participants before the Friday, December 21, 2001 registration deadline. Teachers are encouraged to explore the left-hand menu links in order, from top to bottom, to gain an appreciation for this T.H.I.N.K. project. The five student-centered activities are complemented by extensive teacher support notes. Captains (teachers) of pirate crews (classes) are encouraged to pick a unique pirate thematic team-name since all e-mail sent between captains will be conducted using "pirate lingo" to add adventure and increase the crews' vocabulary. Winning crews will have their collaborating team-names displayed on the "Buccaneer Billboard" and all captains will be able to print out "Pirate Parchment" certificates for their respective crews. Once captains (teachers) have explored this project web site, they are encouraged to register their crew (class) on-line. Regardless of where one might be exploring the T.H.I.N.K. project, it is possible to return to this on-line registration area below by clicking on the first "Register" link in the menu and scrolling down.
T.H.I.N.K. on-line Registration for Teachers Once you register, Buccaneer Brian will send you an e-mail message to welcome you and your crew aboard and assign you to a collaborative team.
