Schedule: Wednesday & Thursday, February 6 & 7 (Days 2 & 3) Task: The final portion of this activity will require collaboration from all pirate captains (teachers) and participating crews (classes). In order to find the final treasure, all four classes must collaborate. Without collaboration there is only 1 chance in 144 of being successful. However, with collaboration from all four pirate captains and crews regarding information about their own island, there is an excellent chance of finding the buried treasure grid location. A final e-mail message will be sent early on this final day from the activity coordinator to all "captains" of the four neighbouring islands asking them to identify the grid location (according to the city grid planning sheet e.g. B3, F5, J10, etc.) of a unique image/icon on their island map (which was completed during Activity #2). Each captain must then e-mail the other three captains of the neighbouring islands letting them know where this unique location is on his/her island. Once the grid location of the specified token has been identified on all four neighbourhood islands, "X will mark the spot" of the buried treasure. Using the city grid worksheet, crew members (students) can draw two straight lines from the center of the grid coordinates containing the specified token between the diagonally-opposite neighbourhoods. The two lines should intersect over the buried treasure. The first pirate crew or team to e-mail Brian Metcalfe, the activity coordinator, with the correct coordinate location of the treasure will be declared the winning team and their school names will be displayed on the "Buccaneer Billboard" for all to see.
