Schedule:   Monday & Tuesday, February 4 & 5 (Days 6 & 1)

Task: In preparation for the last activity, the captain of each pirate crew will receive an e-mail message from the activity coordinator before sunrise. Pirate crews will be asked to join the centres of four specific grid locations with straight lines to form a cross or "X"  on their island map. Using the grid coordinates identified below, the crew must determine the location where buried treasure might be located at the intersection of the two lines. The pirate captain must then e-mail the activity coordinator with the treasure reference point to complete the activity.

Steps:

Check e-mail to receive message
FOR ONLY THIS ACTIVITY, have each pirate use the coordinate naming convention in which the island (completed in Activity #2) has the columns named U, V, W ... Z (across the top)  and the rows named 21, 22, 23 ... 26 down the side.
Use a pencil and a ruler to draw two straight lines joining the CENTRES of the grid icons specified in the e-mail to form two intersecting lines.
Since "X marks the spot" for the buried treasure, locate the grid by its letter and number coordinates under the intersection point.
Get consensus from all pirate crew as to where the treasure is buried on your island.
Each pirate captain should e-mail the activity coordinator (a.k.a "Buccaneer Brian) indicating which island one represents and the grid coordinate location where the pirate crew believes the treasure is buried.
Buccaneer Brian will reply to all e-mail messages that arrive on the "high tide" with feedback as to your success.
If pirate captains are not able to adhere to the last deadline date of this activity, it is IMPORTANT that you modify this current activity so that you can be ready to start the final collaborative treasure hunt on-time. True this activity provides practice for determining the treasure location using the "X marks the spot" intersection process but it is not a necessary prerequisite to the collaborative final activity in the T.H.I.N.K. project.
