Building relationships with schools and the community

The School Resource Officers (SROs) work at 15 Winnipeg School Division schools thanks to a project called the North End School Resource Officer Partnership Initiative. What do SROs do?                                 

• Build relationship with students, school staff, parents/guardians and the surrounding community.
• Offer one-to-one, law-related counselling with students.
• Provide law-related education to students, parents and staff by being a guest speaker in classrooms, at staff meetings and parent council meetings.
• Meet with school administrators on a regular basis.
• Accompany classes on field trips.
• Mediate disputes.
• Respond to parent inquiries.
• Make student feel safer.

SROs serve as

• Role models
• Mentors
• A presence in and around the schools

Each SRO is assigned to a high school and its local elementary and junior high schools.
