S.O.A.R. - Students' Original Animated Resources

Objective: This S.O.A.R. web site will display Students' (and Staff) Original Animated Resources in the form of animated GIF images.

Who: This activity is open to any student or staff member in The Winnipeg School Division No. 1.

What: This web site will provide pages or galleries which display the animated creativity of our students and staff. Educators are invited to send only original animated GIF images as e-mail attachments for inclusion in this collection.

When: Submissions will be accepted any time during the 2000 - 2001 school year.

Why: "Leveraged learning" occurs when one examines the creations of others and attempts to, not only replicate the process but, improve on the design. By sharing our creativity, other students and staff are challenged to demonstrate their talents as well.

How: Individual frame creations must be designed within a 200 x 200 pixel square as defined in the Paint/Paintbrush attributes. Students and staff may use freeware such as "Ulead's GIF Animator Lite Edition" or "Microsoft GIF Animator" to link the individual frames together in an animated sequence. Be advised that if the creations exceed the 200 x 200 frame, they will be too big to be displayed on this web site and will take too long to load. Once a 200 x 200 pixel animated GIF has been created and tested, educators are requested to send an e-mail message to Brian Metcalfe at: bitsandbytes@wsd1.org  In the e-mail  message, provide:

• the creator's first name;
• the first initial of her/his surname;
• the school name; and
• the animated GIF as an attachment

Once the above e-mail is sent to Brian Metcalfe, he will acknowledge receipt of the e-mail message and will endeavour to include the animated GIF(s) in this web site as soon as possible. Peruse the animated GIFs included in the gallery links below and let your creativity take off and S.O.A.R.!
