Internet
Search
Objectives:
1. Students will work in pairs to search the internet for information on Pablo
Picasso.
2. Students will gather information and publish a document about Picasso's life.
3. Students will publish a bibliography of information used.
Software: Netscape Navigator, a word processing program
Procedure: Have students sit together as a group on the floor. Explain to them
appropriate uses of the internet . Make an agreement with each student that he/she
will not pursue inappropriate materials.
Demonstrate to the students how to open Internet Explorer/Netscape Navigator. Write
out the script outlining these steps on chart paper to enable students to refer back to.
Next, demonstrate the bookmarks
pull down menu. (A number of search engines have previously been bookmarked at each
computer.) Ask students to choose a search engine to help them with their
search. Demonstrate how to enter a query and how to access queries found. For
example,
1. Click Start
2. Point to Programs
3. Point to Internet Resources
4. Click Internet Explorer
5. Click Bookmarks
6. Point to Search
7. Click on any Search Engine i.e. Yahoo, Alta Vista, Web, etc.
8. Type in Picasso
9. Press the Enter Key
10. Scroll down to see lists of web sites found
Again, write these steps on chart paper to allow students to refer back to.
Have students work in pairs to
search and bookmark and print out desired web sites. Students can work on their
document about Picasso's life in the classroom and then return to the lab to publish the
final document.
Evaluation:
Were students able to successfully search for queries on Picasso? Were students able
to navigate through Netscape Navigator to acquire information?
