Picasso Jigsaw
The aim of this lesson
is to get the students to really look at Picasso's colours, shapes, and line.
Each child will have a small piece (8 cm X 8 cm square) from one of Picasso's paintings
which they will make into a larger piece.
First, start with a colour photocopy of a Picasso painting - one with a lot of colour and
detail for example:

Divide the photocopy up
into squares, number each piece on the back, cut it up and give each student a copy.
It is important to keep a record of your numbering system to help you put together the
giant composite painting which results.
The child takes their small 8 cm X 8 cm square, which is just a small part of the Picasso
photocopy, and makes a larger (50 cm X 50 cm) painting. When all the paintings are
complete, the students and the teacher assemble this giant composite painting together,
referring to the numbered grid and a copy of the painting. The result is quite
impressive.
