lesson1.gif (1287 bytes)     Art Appreciation

This first lesson needs to be an art appreciation lesson.  Show slides and visuals of Picasso's work from various times throughout his life.  Talk about the elements and principles of art ie. line, colour, shape, texture, etc.

Let the students choose one of the images of Picasso's and have them make a copy of this in any medium (paint, oil pastels, crayons, etc).  This activity will require the students to really look at the way Picasso painted.  They will have to  try and recreate his colours, his lines, and his shapes.

The teacher can decide how large or small students' work needs to be but, as a rule larger pieces work better.  This allows for more freedom for the students.
