By Junnel In the
beginning of chapter 3, Annemarie and Ellen always walked the longer way home.
They were trying to avoid the tall soldier and his short partner. Mrs. Rosen and
Mama usually still had their coffee together in the afternoons. The weather was
changing, so Mrs. Rosen and Mama knitted Annemarie, Ellen, and little Kirsti
scarves and mittens.
In the middle of chapter 3, Kirsti, Annemarie, and Ellen were making fun
of Samuel, who was Mrs. Hirish’s son. Annemarie would make a horrible face
trying to imitate Samuel and what he looks like. Ellen and Kirsti described him
with unruly hair, stooped shoulders, and thick glasses.
At the end of the chapter 3, Peter came over with some bad and good news!
The good news was that he brought Annemarie and Kirsti pearly, white seashells.
The bad news was that the Rosens were Jews and they would be relocated.
Annemarie didn’t care, but it did matter!
