Chapter 15
Back Up Next

By Ashley

This chapter is about Annemarie running through the path.  She got stopped by the soldiers who took the bread from her basket and fed it to the dogs. Annemarie still was pretending to be a silly little girl who was taking her Uncle’s lunch to him. The dogs were tense and alert. They ate the bread in no time at all. The soldiers talked to each other. Annemarie was mad at the soldiers.

Then, the soldiers grabbed the cheese and threw it to the ground. They said there dogs smelled meat. Annemarie said the Nazis took all our meat. One of the soldiers took the small packet from the basket and opened it and said it is just a handkerchief. He was surprised her mother did not put flowers on it.

Later, when she got to the boat she told her uncle about the soldiers. Annemarie could not see or hear the Rosens.  He said all is well because of you. Run back home and tell your mama I will see you this evening. “They took my bread, eh?” he said,   “I hope they choke on it.”
