        In the beginning of chapter 13, Annemarie was really worried because she heard a noise and went outside to see what it was. She found out that it was her mom lying on the ground. Quickly she went to help her up as her mom told her what happened. Annemarie’s mom was running back to the house when she tripped over a tree root. That is why she was lying on the ground. As her mama was done telling the story, Annemarie helped her inside Henrik’s house.

  In the middle of the chapter 13 , Annemarie was helping her mom when she spotted a little packet on the ground. She picked it up and looked at it. She remembered that it looked like the packet that Peter gave to Mr. Rosen. Annemarie quickly asked her mother what it was. It was very important for Uncle Henrik to have before the soldiers came. That is when Mama sent Annemarie to deliver it to him. First, Annemarie went into the kitchen to put her mom in a chair. Then she got a basket and started putting some food into it. This was to make it look like somebody’s lunch. Under the napkin she hid the packet of something. Annemarie still didn’t know what it was.

        In the end, Annemarie was ready to go through the woods to give the basket to Uncle Henrik. Her mom told her that if any soldiers stopped her, she should just pretend to be going to give a lunch to her fisherman uncle. Annemarie agreed. After a short moment Annemarie’s mother told her to run as fast as she could! Then Annemarie kissed her mother’s cheek. She took the basket and started to run down the path towards the boat.
