1. Do you have many places for recreation?
We have lakes and ponds and rivers where we play. We fish, swim, boat
and skate. And we play in the Community Hall playground.
2. Do you live in a city or rural community?
We live in a rural community.
3. Do you like living in a Winnipeg community? Why?
We live in a British Columbia community. I like living here because it
is free and there is no shooting. We get to meet lots of people passing
through our town. They come from all over the world.
4. What kind of building do you live in?
I live in a log cabin. It has a bedroom, a fireplace, and a bathroom.
The living room and the kitchen are together. There is a porch outside
at the front of the cabin door.

5. What games do you play in your community?
We play hockey, soccer, basketball and baseball at school. We play touch
football too.
6. How do you keep your community safe?
We keep our community safe by fences (to keep cougars off our
playground), alarm systems, rules and policemen. The RCMP are at Alexis
Creek and Anahim Lake.
7. How do you have fun in your community?
We plan with adults in the Parents Advisory Group. We have a school
council and a school president to help us to plan fun things too. Some
of the fun things that we do are BINGO, Winter and Spring Carnivals,
bookwalks and cakewalks and parties.
8. How long does it take you to get to the nearest
hospital?
It takes us three hours to get to the hospital in Williams Lake. But we
have a nursing clinic in Tatla Lake too.

9. What are some safety rules at your school?
Some safety rules at our school are that when it is Bike Day you have to
wear a helmet. Another one is that you have to keep your hands to
yourself. There is no running in the school. There is no fighting or
throwing snowballs..
10. What types of transportation do you have in your
community?
We have school buses, trucks, vans and cars. We also have motorbikes,
four-wheelers, and bicycles.
11. Where do you get your food?
We get our food from our Moms and Dads. And our Moms and Dads get food
from Williams Lake. It takes three hours to get to Williams Lake. Some
families hunt for deer, moose, cougars, beavers, bears and ducks for
their meat. We also buy food at the West Chilcotin Trading store.
12. How do you maintain your roads?
We maintain our roads by Cariboo Road Services. They get graders,
rollers, loaders, dump trucks, sand trucks, water trucks and snowplow
trucks. We have gravel roads and pavement roads.

13. What weather do you have in your community?
In winter it rains or snows and it is cold. In Spring it is warm or
windy and wet. In Summer it's nice and warm.
14. What do you carry your school supplies in?
I carry my school supplies in a back pack.
15. How do you get to school everyday?
I take a bus to school every day and it takes me 45 minutes from my
house on a bumpy gravel road..
16. What kind of school do you go to?
I go to an English speaking school. It has grades Kindergarten to 10.
There are 42 kids in my school.

17. Where do you get your clothes in your community?
We travel 3 hours to Williams Lake to buy clothes.
Some people in our community spin wool and knit socks, sweaters, mitts
and hats for other people to buy at our Craft Fair..
18. What kind of organized sports do you belong to?
We only play sports at school. There are no organized sports in our
community. Some people cross-country ski or snowmobile in winter. Some
people go ice skating or play hockey with family and friends on the
ponds.
19. Do you have 911?
We don't have 911. We have to call the RCMP at Alexis Creek (1-1/2 hours
away to the east on Highway 20) or the RCMP at Anahim Lake (1 hour and
15 minutes away to the west on Highway 20).
20. Where do you get water in your community?
We get our water from wells or from lakes or from creeks.

21. How do you get to the hospital if you are having a
baby?
We go to the clinic. Or you can go to the hospital in Williams Lake. And
some people have to go in an ambulance to get to the hospital.
22. What do you learn at school?
We learn how to do math and we learn how to read and write. We learn how
to be friends. We learn how to play different kinds of sports. We are
also learning about maps and different kinds of houses.
23. How do you fight fires in your community?
We have helicopters that spray water. We have fire crews.
24. What games do you play in your community?
We play puzzles and on gameboards when we are inside. We play many kinds
of games in the gym.

25. How far is the fire station from your house?
We do not have a fire station in our community. The nearest fire station
is in Williams Lake, 3 hours away.
26. What kind of clothes do you wear throughout the year?
In winter we wear snow pants. Outside in summer we wear shorts and a
T-shirt. In Spring we wear gum boots and jeans and a T-shirt. In Fall we
wear jean jackets and jeans.
27. How do you get to the hospital in your community?
We drive to the clinic and an ambulance comes to take us to Williams
Lake. Or our parents can drive us to the hospital.
28. How often do you get your teeth taken care of in your
community?
We go to Williams Lake to go to the dentist. I get my braces checked
every month.
