Jumping Mouse

A jumping mouse is 10cm long and has a tail that is 13cm long. It has dark fur on its back and yellowish-brown stripes on the sides. It also has long hind legs that help it to jump high.

A jumping mouse lives in Asia and Europe. It can also be found in Canada and the United States. They build their nests in meadows and thickets. They usually prefer damp places.

Jumping mice eat insects, leaves and stems. They also like to eat berries, seeds, roots and plants.

A female jumping mouse has young twice a year. She can have 4 to 7 young a year. She carries the babies for 20 to 30 days before giving birth. When the young are born, they have pink skin and no fur.
