Grasshopper Mouse

A grasshopper mouse is about 6.4 to 8.9 cm long. Its fur is brown or gray with a white belly. It has a stubby tail.

Grasshopper mice live in dry regions and deserts in the United States and in Northern Mexico. They build their nests in the empty burrows of other animals.

Grasshopper mice prefer to eat grasshoppers. This is how they got their name. But, they also eat plants, scorpions, worms, beetles, crickets, caterpillars, spiders, lizards and other small animals.

The mother carries her young inside her body for 29 to 38 days. She has 3 to 4 babies in a litter.
