Deer Mouse

The deer mouse is from 15 to 20cm long. It has large ears and its fur is gray or reddish-brown. Its belly fur and paws are white. This is why it is also called the white-footed mouse.

Deer mice can be found in deserts, forests, swamps and mountains in North America. They build nests in tree stumps, cracks in rocks or in tunnels.

Deer mice hunt search for food at night. They like to eat insects, berries, leaves, nuts, seeds and fruits.

A female deer mouse can have 1 to 9 babies. She carries them in her body for 21 to 27 days. The young stay with their mother for 3-6 weeks.
