Have you thought of giving your
child the gift of another language? Early immersion is a program of choice, open to all children of the appropriate age. These students are learning English and French as their second and third or even fourth and fifth languages.

How do I prepare my child for immersion? The best advice we can give when enrolling your child in an early French immersion program is to prepare him for school just as you would if he were entering the English stream from ensuring that he can manage his own jacket and shoes to making him comfortable spending time away from you. Anything you can do to familiarize him with the school, the playground, the teacher, future classmates, the route to and from school and the routine he'll follow in the fall will make the transition that much smoother. Most if not all of the children in his class will have no prior knowledge of French so don't feel it's necessary to put him in a French preschool or daycare. On the other hand, it is a good idea to expose him to a little French beforehand so that he can enjoy some familiarity with the sound of the language: a French cartoon on the TV, a segment of Sesame Street, some children's French songs.
