THE PRODUCE FRIDGE First we went to The Produce Fridge on our Safeway tour. It smelled like mushrooms in the fridge! Someone was chopping cabbages. It is very cold and holds fruits and vegetables. There were many different types of melons and apples. Almost one whole wall was full of mushrooms. The Produce Fridge was almost as big as our classroom! They keep the food in The Produce Fridge because it has to keep the produce cool. It was really fun!
THE DAIRY FRIDGE After we went to the Produce Fridge we went to the dairy fridge. In the dairy fridge they stored the milk, we saw mountains and mountains of milk. We also saw dark brown chocolate milk and when we think about it it leaves our mouths watering.
THE CARDBOARD BOX COMPRESSOR At Safeway Brenda showed us how they use the cardboard box compressor. It is very important to close the door before you start it. The cardboard box compressor is a giant box crusher. It can crush as many boxes as you can fit inside it. The people use it to recycle. When you are closing the door it is important that your fingers do not get caught in it because they could get stuck.
THE MEAT SECTION When the doors opened to the meat section a new smell rushed into our noses, so we breathed on out. Then this man name Al showed us a very high tech machine that worked as fast as the blink of an eye. Now that machine, though it wasn't a very cooperative machine, just wouldn't get started for Al, so to his disappointment he had to go get someone else. Finally the machine started. Did you know that, that machine can wrap, weigh, price and sticker the price on the meat package! Now that's impressive! Also, we had the best time watching that amazing machine and I hope we go there again soon!
THE RECEIVING ZONE The 3rd place we went to was the Receiving Zone. We saw a tractor loading and unloading different kinds of food. There were also a bunch of different coloured pallets. There was a fridge near by. There was a door that you had to ring a bell to get past. There were signs that told you which colour of pallet you need.
THE BAKERY When we got to the bakery we saw a pot with a teeny amount of dough and it could make 60 cakes. Isn't that amazing. We also saw a man playing the drums. Well actually he was flipping the donuts but he looked like he was playing the drums. The bakery smelt like donuts. It was neat! In the Safeway bakery there was a gigantic oven. The oven turns like a ferris wheel. When you push the button the oven turns around. When you push the bar the oven comes to a stop. Oh the wonderful smell in the air, it smells like warm fresh bread. We got donuts from a lady in the bakery right after the tour was over. We took them back to school. The donuts were really tasty, sugary and yummy! We each got one. There were lots of different kindsof yummy goodies at SAFEWAY! |
