The membership of the École Riverview School Parent Advisory Council is open to any parent/guardian of children in École Riverview School.

The Council is governed by an Executive consisting of: Past Chair, Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee Chairpersons. These Committees consist of Funding, Fundraising, Parent Education, School Promotions, Policy and Planning, Lunch Program, French Immersion and South End Advisory. This Executive will serve a term of office a minimum of one school year to a maximum of three.

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE COUNCIL:

To facilitate communication between parents, the principal, and the teaching staff regarding school programs, activities and procedures.

bullet

To promote a positive relationship with the School Board, Divisional Administration and other agencies relating to the school and student body.

bullet

To promote the image and accomplishments of École Riverview School.

bullet

To assist the school in informing parent(s)/guardian(s) of school programs and activities.

bullet

To assist in promoting a safe neighbourhood environment for the physical well-being of the children.

bullet

To promote, foster, and support a positive educational environment involving the children, staff, parent(s)/guardian(s), and community members at École Riverview School.

bullet

To provide advice to the school principal in the following areas: school goals; school policies; discipline model; staff utilization; budget allocation; use of facilities and resources; and use of resources and agencies in the community to support school programs.

To represent parent(s)/guardian(s) and students in matters relating to our School Board through the appointment of representatives to South-End Advisory and French Immersion Advisory Committees, as well as through discussing and responding to school and divisional policy.

To provide a forum for educating ourselves as to school and divisional policy and programs.

bullet

To support the school through fundraising and to assist in decisions regarding the allocation of those funds.

 

ACTIVITIES

The following are some examples of E.R.S.P.A.C. past activities

E.R.S.P.A.C. monthly newsletter to report on Council meetings and other matters of interest to the school community

fundraise to supplement financial needs of the school and the children
bullet
provides regular pizza and hot dog days for the children to fundraise and provide a "fun" activity
bullet
provides funding to assist students in attending summer and winter camp sessions
bullet
provides and subsidizes babysitting training course
bullet
operates the school lunch program and develops policy and manual for same
bullet
provides written material to promote the school in community newspapers and publications
bullet
provides barbecue and other school centred functions for the school members and families
bullet
arranges and provides teacher appreciation lunches
bullet
hosts various public forums and Parent Information Nights for Trustees, Volunteer Information, Reading strategies, new curricula information and parent "training"
bullet
responds to issues from the Division, Province, School Policies, Division Budgets, etc.
bullet
participates in division committees (South End Advisory Committee, French Immersion Advisory, Alternative Program)

ERSPAC’s activities change as the needs and character of the school change. We are always receptive to creative ideas to help improve the school for all our children.

 

POLICIES

The Council should not be a forum for resolving problems of an individual nature relating to a particular child’s schooling.

bullet

The name of the Council shall not be used to endorse any publications which are not identified with the functions of the Council.

bullet

Lists of names of members of the Council shall not be made available to any concern for commercial purposes

 

MEETINGS

bullet

The Council holds an Annual General Meeting in May, at which time Elections are held.

bullet

The Council holds regular monthly meetings from September to June inclusive, generally the second Wednesday of the month. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
