Edward John Hughes was born in North Vancouver in 1913. He studied at the Vancouver School of Applied Art and Design. After graduating in 1933, Hughes worked on print and mural projects with other art students. In 1939, Hughes joined the military and spent six years as an official war artist. He was discharged from the military in 1946. He then returned to the west coast of Canada and lived in Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island. He lived with his wife named Fern. All of his life, he studied the province and its landscape as a professional artist. On January 5 2007, this great Canadian artist passed away. Bamberton Beach Comox Valley Maple Bay |
