"Wee Readers" in the Library

Once each month, from October to June,
"pre-nursery aged" children (3-year-olds)
and their parent/guardian may attend a special event!

As we believe that literacy is a life-long journey, right from birth to adulthood, we organize a pre-school story reading club "Wee Readers" as part of the school-wide literacy plan at River Elm School.

Parents bring their three-year-olds to our school library once a month. Stories are read and acted out for the young children and their parents by the teacher-librarian, the principal, and/or students.  At the end of the 30 minutes session, milk and cookies are served to the "wee-readers" and coffee is served to the parents.

During the 30 minute session parents and children are exposed to and are given the opportunity to participate in various forms of literacy events.
