TEACHING CHILDREN RESPONSIBILITY

At River Elm School, we are committed to teaching children responsibility. When a child has forgotten homework or equipment, for example, we discourage him/her from calling home for a quick rescue.
The child must learn through natural and logical consequences as a result of what they do or what they fail to do. An example of a natural and logical consequences is: when a child has forgotten to bring gym equipment, he/she simply cannot participate in gym class for the day.

If a parent rescues the child regularly by bringing to school the forgotten article, the child will have little need to learn responsibility. Of course, there are circumstances when a child needs to call home, such as when the child is ill. We would appreciate your understanding and cooperation with us in our effort to help your child develop a strong sense of responsibility throughout life.

Thank you.

Mr. Thomas V. Chan, Principal
