Welcome
to the River Elm School
COMPUTER CLUB PAGE!
Children from grades
4
to 6 get nominated by their teachers to join Mr. Melnyk and
Mr. Gauthier every Wednesday at noon
for computer lessons as an extra-curricular activity. The
activity aims at helping children develop an interest in
various computer programs and some basic WEB editing
techniques.
Areas covered during
Computer Club Sessions:
- Create an animated GIF for
posting on the WWW.
- Use the digital camera to capture "real
time" images that can be used to create animations.
- Use the Win Morph
program to
create a morph project.
- Create a basic web page
using Front Page Express (title, subtitle, animated image
created, still images taken with the digital camera,
different font sizes and colors, tables).
- Create a web page
highlighting an activity from one of the River Elm
classrooms to be posted on the school's web site
(for a challenge).
Our first project for the
beginners this year was to create an animated GIF bouncing ball.
- Animations:
Create a detailed image of a three-coloured ball, using MS Paint (200 x
200) and save it in the GIF format.
- Modify and save 4
shots of the ball, one for each cardinal positions (top, right,
bottom, left ~ N-E-S-W).
- Using the MS GIF
Animator software, load up the 4 ball images and animate them to create a
bouncing ball (loop,
transparent, Restore Background, x/100 sec.)
(please see the
projects link to see the results).
- Produce a sequence of at
least 3 photos of someone's
face with the
digital camera to make the head move from left to
right indicating "No" with the head.
Morphs:
- Use Win Morph to morph
images of two different animals.
- Create a similar morph
project with an animal's head and student's face.
Web Page Creation:
- Using Front Page
Express, create a Web Page showing off the projects created during the 10
computer club sessions. These pages to be posted on the school's Intranet.
Have a look at projects created
by students in the Computer Club.
