Cheremosh DancersCheremosh
By Adam

During the month of September Cheremosh came to our school to perform a Ukrainian dance. They did amazing flips and twists and high jumps. After the performance the students got to ask questions of the dancers. They came from Edmonton, Alberta. After the show the students got to shake their hands and they gave out flyers for their concert which was going to be held at the Pantages Playhouse.

Voting BoothThe Election in Room 111
By Kasia and Audrey

On September 21st, Room 111 had a mock election. Some of the students participated in organizing the whole event. The students names were:

Adam Baran- Deputy Returning Officer
Stephanie Goudie- Pool Clerk Officer
Kirk Smith- Tally Sheets
Katrina Sherlock- Returning Officer

We thank them for their participation. When we had our election it was just like the real one except it was held in our classroom and the ballots were fake. The candidates were Gary Doer for the NDP, Gary Filmon for the PC, and Jon Gerrard for the Liberals. Once all of the votes were cast they were counted. The results were:
NDP Gary Doer- 22 votes
PC Gary Fillmon-2 votes
Liberal Jon Gerrard- 1 vote
Haley Norman- Chief Electoral

Two ballots were spoiled.

In the real election Mr. Gary Doer won. Now we will wait another four years for another election. I wonder who will be running for Premier.

HandcuffsThe Alive Program
by D’arcy

On October the 5th the Alive Program took place. A police officer from the City of Winnipeg came to give us a talk. We looked at his pepper spray. We learned that the pepper spray hurts. We learned that you can move someone anywhere you want if they are in handcuffs. We also learned that kids under the age of 12 can’t get charged. We learned that there are rules if you are between the ages of 12-17. If you are over the age of 18 you are taken to adult court.

Some of the common crimes that occur in the city are break and enter, vandalism, stealing, fighting and fraud. He showed us his baton which can be used as a weapon. He showed us his clips. The clips hold 15 bullets. We learned the consequences of the crimes. Some of the consequences are Juvenile hall and a fine or jail time. He told us stories of when he was on duty.

Bus Ridership
By Jessica

On October 1st our school had bus ridership. We learned some rules:

No throwing things on the bus.
No food or drinks.
No yelling.
No sticking your hands or anything out of the window.

We learned that the front and back windows can be pushed out in case of an emergency. There are three windows on each side of the bus that you can pull up and use to escape from the bus in an emergency or accident. We also learned that we have to sit properly so we won’t get badly hurt if there’s an accident. There is a handle that you push in case the bus driver has a heart attack. At the end we had to go out at the back of the bus. Kasia Dolna, and Justin Dunn helped us to jump down from the bus.

By Jessica

On September 28th, at 2:45 p.m. there was a patrol meeting. Some of the patrols were switched to different corners. All of the patrols had to vote for two people to be the next captain and co-captain for October. Every month we vote for new captains. The two people that were voted for October were Ardelle Villamor and Justin Ducharme. Ardelle was voted for captain and Justin was voted for co-captain.
