look and sound great. The M.Cs for the Primary Concert were Mackenzie Babinsky and
Domingo Vandelz Junior. The M.Cs for the Intermediate Concert were Kasia Dolna and
Tymon Melnyk. Mrs. Adams congratulated the M.Cs for their hard work and especially

Police Mascot
By Danny
On Wednesday November 25th there was a big assembly in the gym. There were
police from the Winnipeg Police Service there. There were camera crews from MTN, CKY and
Global television. There were also reporters from the Free Press and the Winnipeg Sun. To
start off the assembly one of the police officers brought out a puppet named Sgt.Willie.
Sgt.Willie was very entertaining and lots of the kids liked him. Once the police officer
finished he told us why we were all gathered in the gym. He told us that someone at Ralph
Brown School was the winner of the name the mascot contest. It was Tasia Zuk from grade 2.
Tasia named the new police mascot "Cuffs". Tasia won an award that was handed to
her by the Chief of Police. Tasia also won a hockey stick that was autographed by the
Winnipeg Jets, a certificate that allowed her to be Chief of the Winnipeg Police Service
for a day and she won a free McDonalds meal for the whole class. After the presentation
the kids got to go up to "Cuffs" and hug and shake hands with him.
Christmas Boxes, Cheerboard and
Winnipeg Harvest
By Danny
This year the French teacher, Madame Carvelo, chose Mrs. Duffys grade 6
class to help make Christmas boxes. Madame got the Christmas boxes from Safeway. First we
had to make the box and then put small toys inside like, sports cards, soaps and shampoos
etc. When the kids were done filling up their boxes Madame took them back to Safeway.
Madame was also helping with Winnipeg Harvest. The way you help out with
Winnipeg Harvest was to bring a non perishable food to the French room and put it in the
box. Madame then brought it to Winnipeg Harvest and where it was delivered to families who
needed it.
Mrs. Duffys grade 6s also helped out with the Christmas Cheerboard.
The grade sixes brougt boxes to each classroom and asked for students to bring in food and
toys so they could be packaged and sent to peoples houses for Christmas.
Buddy Reading
By Arlene
Every month Ralph Brown School has a program called "Buddy Reading".
This year Buddy Reading started on October 6th. It is held on every first Tuesday of the
month. Buddy Reading requires two classes combine and read to each other. Each child in
the classroom pairs off and reads to each other. The intermediate grades help the primary
children reach their reading goals and have some fun. Ms. Whiteman, our librarian, starts
it off. Buddy Reading lasts about 45 minutes.
Dental Inspection
By Russel
On December 3rd and 4th people from the dentist office came to our school. They
explained how to brush your teeth and how often. They explained how much tooth paste to
put on your brush. They first explained why not to get cavities and what happens if
you do. They explained that is the reason why you brush your teeth so often (or should).
Then they told you why you should brush your teeth if you do not. Then they gave out slips
so you could get a free toothbrush. They visited grades nursery to grade 3.
