The School Scare
By Karly

On a Friday in January a young man, about the age 16, approached 3 grade sixes on patrol. The young man showed them a gun. When he showed them he demanded one of the grade 6’s jacket. They were very scared and were going to give the jacket but the young man saw an adult coming and he ran away. The 16 year old boy was never seen that day except for one women who called the school saying she saw him walking with the gun and assumed it was just a toy gun. When the students came back from lunch they told their teacher and their principal. The principal immediately contacted the police and they came rushing over. They asked about what happened and if anyone could describe him. The students did. Another grade six said he was walking home and saw the gun. As soon as he saw the gun he ran. Our principal promised to make sure we are safe by locking doors. She suggested that we not walk alone and avoid strangers. But is it really enough?

Fish in Room 105
By Kasia and Mandy

On January 18 Room 105 had two small joys come into our class. Our fishes names are Pikachu, Lava head, and Gillberg. They are all fan-tailed fish. When we got lipstick and Pikachu, they were put in the same fish tank in our classroom. Lipstick bit off Pikachu’s tail so we put them in seperate tanks (we put Pikachu in Ms. Goldberg’s house) so Lipstick wouldn’t beat up Pikichu up anymore! We really enjoy having fish in our classroom because they are real cool pets. Each week one student from room 105 gets to feed the fish. The students enjoy doing it!

The Volleyball Team
By Marko Sajdak

The Ralph Brown School volleyball team has been practicing for months. They are almost ready for the big day, the tournament at Luxton School. So far there are 11 players on the team. Our coaches are Mr. Berger and Mr. Chubey. They have to make the hardest decision. They have to make the cuts. So far they cut 17 athletes. We had good players so it was so hard for Mr.Berger to cut players. The coaches are the only ones who have been working the hardest with this and thinking the most about this tournament. In this tournament there are going to be some great volleyball players. Our volleyball team has been practicing every day at 12:00 p.m. which is at lunch. When we finish the tournament I will write back and tell you who won, what the score was and what happened.

Valentine Parties at Ralph Brown
By Karly

Valentine’s Day is a great day for Ralph Brown. Valentine’s Day is the only day where everybody can sit back and enjoy it. In the afternoon all of the school has a party! Everybody is very excited!! Most of us bring valentine’s cards. We hand out our valentines right before we hand out the snacks. We make bags to put in our valentines. Sometimes we bring something for the class like candy or food. Different classes do different activities. For instance some of us frolic in the classroom and some do art. Since our teacher is really cool she lets us watch movies! One thing we also do is dress in red clothing. Our school has so much school spirit we love to do little traditions like that. Valentines Day is my favourite holiday besides Christmas, because it’s a time to show a person how you feel about them. Do you like Valentine’s Day? Does your school do things like this?

Valentine’s Day
Marcie

Valentine's Day is a special day. It is on February 14th. Many say, "Be my valentine." On Valentine's Day, many people give candy, flowers, and other gifts to their friends.

Each classroom will have a party to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Some children bring Valentine’s Day cards to school to give to the class. Some children bring homemade cards or bought cards. Valentine’s Day is about loving and sharing.

Today is the day
we show the way
we care for one another.

It comes once a year
and that time is here
so get yourself a valentine!

Roses Are Red

Roses are red
Roses are red
Violets are blue
and I’ve just come to say
"Happy Valentines Day"

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I wouldn’t be happier
Without you!

What did the boy octopus say to the girl octopus on Valentine's Day?
Answer: I want to hold your hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand, hand.

Sal: Can you tell an elephant from a valentine card?
Al: I don't know.
Sal: Then you don't get a job with the post office.

What did the valentine card say to the stamp?
Answer: Stick with me and we'll go places!

Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Olive.
Olive who?
Olive you!

Nursery.jpg (5205 bytes)Helping Out Mrs. Burkett’s Nursery Class
By Mandy and Kasia

At the end of September, at least 10 students from Room 105 started to help out the Nursery students every day at 11:20 p.m. Mrs. Burkett is really pleased with our help! Children in Nursery get their jackets, boots, mitts and scarfs and bring them on the carpet and wait for their buddies. The childrens’ names that help are:

Mandy McIvor, Kasia Dolna, Karly Williams, Arlene Rodriguez, Marcie Mcrae, Janine Bathan, Ardelle Villamor, Jeff Bathan and Marko Sajak.

These 9 children from room 105 are really helpful to the children who go to Day Care or home on time. Parents say, "What a help these kids are to parents!"
