War Affected Children
by Jeffrey

Last week a woman named Joanne Doherty came from CIDA to our school to talk to the grade 6 to 8 children about how war affected children. CIDA means Canadian International Development Agency. She talked about how some children had to kill their own friends and how many children were affected.

Here are some facts about how wars affect children:

The war conflict has left over one million children orphaned and over twelve million homeless.

In the past ten years, almost two million children were killed and over six million were disabled from the war.

About three hundred thousand children under eighteen are fighting in the war.

About eight hundred children are bombed and killed by land mines.

The numbers of refugees are increasing about five thousand in a month.

This what goes through their lives. They should be treated like kids not adults. And because of this, children need help like, food, money donations, doctors, a good education, supplies for building or making useful things, shoes and clothing, toys and books to read, friends, make them feel at home and many more peace keepers.

If everybody gives and helps, someday, everybody will be happy and hopefully the children caught in war will be able to live longer and not get killed

Fair at Garden City
By Helena

On Friday, September 22nd, Saturday, September 23rd, and Sunday, September 24th there was a Bake Sale at Garden City. A lot of people came. Many people stopped by the display. Some asked where Ralph Brown was but some people said they went to Ralph Brown. Some of those people asked about camp and knew the kids were having fun. They were also selling M and M’s and Entertainment books. Almost all of the extra M and M’s and Entertainment books were sold, too. There was a free draw for a book and cassette. Many parents donated cookies or cup cakes. A lot of money ended up being raised. The amount was about 500 dollars. We would like to say thank you to the people who came and to the volunteers that help at the display.

M and M Chocolate Sale
by Katrina Judt

Ralph Brown School had a fund raiser. The children at the school sold M and M chocolate. The chocolates were Mars, Crispy Crunch, M and M’s, and plain M and M’s. Each child got one carton with chocolates inside. We were told to try and sell them to people we knew. If we sold them door to door we needed to be with an adult. The money raised will help the students at our school.

Conflict Managers
by Stephanie Ani

Conflict Managers have a very important job in this school. They help kids on the playground with teasing, arguments and problems. If we didn’t have Conflict Managers we would have a lots of problems out on the school playground.
