Ron Cahute and Ihor Baczynskyj, are both Dads and between them they have six children. As children, they remember how boring those Saturday morning Ukrainian School classes in their church basement used to be. So, they decided to create a kid’s album for kids. They experimented with their own children and found out that if you approach kids with a fun attitude, they learn.

They experimented further and took the "Barabolya" to their kids’ school and found out that kids were able to say the Ukrainian alphabet and count to ten in one afternoon session. The effect was so overwhelming that even their parents and grandparents were singing along as well.

Ron and Ihor are now entertaining children across Canada and the United States with this new approach to teaching children the basic Ukrainian language words and phrases. So sing along, clap your hands and enjoy the "Barabolya Concert."

By Arlene

The week before Halloween the children from Room 105 made masks. To make the masks they first a bag over their hair. Then they put vaseline all over their face especially their eyebrows because that was the hairiest place on their face. After that’s all done they put on a moist cast material that felt very powdery. This was a type of cloth that was torn into strips, made wet and then applied to the face. They applied three layers on the face. The cast material dried in 30-40 seconds. We used an egg carton on the chin. After the material dried the masks were taken off the face and painted. Some of the masks were painted as witches or monsters. It was a fun time.

By Karly

The Computer Lab teacher, Mr. Andrysiak, decided to make a school newspaper. Mr. Andrysiak was very ecstatic about his idea. He started to make his idea work. He first started by gathering up kids from Ralph Brown School. The kids names are Karly, Marcie, Arlene, Marko, Justin, Daniel, Russell, Mandy, and Kasia. He first asked us about some topics we could write about. We all named a number of articles. We each got one article. Some of even got two. When we were done doing our rough draft, Mr. A. recorded us and he put us on the internet. When he put us on the internet he showed us what we looked like. We were very shy but excited. We did it and looked like professionals. We decided to write about the events and other stuff for the newspaper. Mr. A thought we were doing such a good job that as a reward he took us out for lunch at Pizza Hut. Most of us wanted to go to Subway but I guess pizza is good. We were all very excited.

By Justin

On Thursday September the 24th Room 105 went to the Old Dutch Factory. We got there on a city bus. We left at 12:30 p.m. shortly after we ate lunch. We took the bus on Cathedral. We arrived at the Old Dutch Factory. We hung up our jackets in the lobby. Then we were split into two groups. One group of grade sixes and one of grade fives. First we looked at how they put the seasoning into the chips. That day they were making ripple chips. Then we went to see how the potatoes were cut. They used a big blade to cut the potatoes in half and they were individually cut in plate shapes. Then we got to taste chips when they were freshly cooked. Dat and Danny were pigging out on them. Then we went to go see where they ship the chips. They ship them out 4 minutes after they are made. Once the tour was over we went back to the lobby and got a free bags of chips. Then Mr. A. took a picture of us on the Old Dutch sign outside the building and we left.

By Kasia and Ardelle

On November the 17 room 105 had two bundles of joy come in their class. Every student in room 105 came and were so happy that they had pet rabbits. Ms. Goldberg told us that we would get another bunny in the afternoon. Sable, who is 5 weeks old is a Siamese Dwarf Rabbit. Floppsy is a Holland Lop Rabbit. He is 7 weeks old. The bunny that we got this afternoon was hopping around like it had already been to our classroom. But Sable was sad. Maybe she was scared and she just sat in the corner of her cage. Sable was always biting the students in room of 105, so Ms. Goldberg had to take Sable away. Sable was gone and lots of kids were sad that Sable had to leave. But then things were fine again because Ms. Goldberg got a new rabbit. It was the same breed as Floppsy and also five and a half weeks old. We called our new rabbit Sable number two because Ms. Goldberg wanted to keep Sable’s name. Floppsy has an unique color. The colors on him are marbled colors. Sable has a dark brown color and light brown stripes on her back. Our new Sable is still very young and half the size of Floppsy. Ms. Goldberg took Sable # 2 home with her for a few weeks until Sable gets stronger and gets use to people.

Picture Day
By Marcie

On October 22 the whole school got dressed up for pictures. Every one was excited and hoped their pictures turned out.

The runners were picked from room 111. Their names were Nikki and Shannon. They would go to each classroom to tell the class it was time for their pictures.

The photographer told the teachers to line their students up from tallest to shortest. Some students wore tall shoes to be in the middle of the picture. When students took their individual pictures the photographer would say things like "smile for your boyfriend" or "say cheese". The students got their pictures back on November 17th. The retakes were on November 19th at 9:00 a.m. Also on this day the teachers got their staff pictures taken.

Room 105’s Visit to The Planetarium
By Karly

Room 105 was all set to go to the Planetarium. Mrs. Barr told us we were going to walk down to Main and catch an 18 Corydon. Some kids went up to her and told her we could take a 15 Mountain, but she said we needed the fresh air. We walked there and when we got to Main Street we stood there until our bus came. When our bus came we got on and acted like little ladies and gentleman.

When we got to the Planetarium, Mrs. Barr paid and Mrs. Goldberg took us to where the man would seat us.

The man seated us and we got cozy. Then another man talked to us. He talked to us about the screen and asked us what the difference was between a movie theater and the planetarium. We told him that the screen wasn’t flat and it wasn’t on the ceiling like it was in the planetarium

Then they started the show.
