The Ralph Brown Computer Club
by Pat Roche
Early every
weekday morning at 8:15 a.m. a group of grade five and six students join together in the
Computer Lab, Room 121. What for? The Ralph Brown School Gazette! In other words the
school newspaper. They're using Microsoft Publisher to do articles on the events and
happenings in our school. Their teacher for the Computer Club, Mr. Andrysiak, says that
they are doing a good job so far and hopes they will keep it up! Hopefully this newspaper
will be just as good, maybe even better than last years newspaper.

Oak Hammock Marsh
by Lauren Bukata
Oak Hammock Marsh is where the ducks
swim and the geese fly. Birds use these wetlands to rest before they fly south. Our
classroom, Room 107 and Room 105 went there on Oct. 2, 1995. Our guide's name was Robert.
With him we did several activities. First we did something called Explorer. It was like a
scavenger hunt. You had to answer questions. Next, we went outside and played Marsh Bingo.
You have a paper with animals and plants. When you see an animal or plant you could cross
it off. Then we had lunch. After lunch we did something called "What's For
Dinner". We had to take apart owl pellets (that's the stuff the owl spits up like
bones and fur) and we tried to figure out what the owl had for dinner. We found a lot of
rodent skeletons. We glued them on paper and brought them back to school. At the end, we
had free time to explore all the exhibits. We had a great day!

The Fire Drill
by Irwin Juacalla
The fire drill started at Ralph Brown
School on Wednesday, September 13th, 1995. The fire drill started at 2:00 p.m. The fire
drill happened because Mrs. Adams wanted to see how long it would take to exit the school.
We had to get out of the school without running and without talking. Mrs. Adams told us
that some children didn't manage to walk out quietly and that they must do this the next
time there is a fire drill.

The
First Day at Ralph Brown School
by Pat Roche
On August 30, 1995, at 9:00 a.m.
classes started at Ralph Brown School for a full day. Some children were excited and some
were upset. For most people, it seemed just like yesterday that we got out of school. Here
we are, back at school, to refresh our memories and see our friends again.

The Chocolate Sale
by Natalie Vincent
The chocolate sale was on the first day
of school. The whole school went into the gym and one of teachers started to talk about
the chocolate sale. She told us what students get if they sold one box. She told us that
we got to pick out of the magic box. You could win one dollar, two, five and ten dollars.
The grand prize was a two night stay at Disney World. The other one was a ride in a limo
to a restaurant and back. This year we're selling chocolate caramel bars except they are
individually wrapped.

Conflict
Managers
by Anna Dlugosz and Leah Mores
Conflict managers are students who help
other students to solve a problem. Last year we were trained for eight days with Mr. Udow
for the first time. This is our second training session. Conflict managers are chosen by
teachers, friends and by Mr. Nickel, who is now training us. We started working outside
with the students during the last two weeks in September. We have already solved some
problems in that time. It's the beginning of a new school year and we hope we won't have
to solve many conflicts because we know that we have good students at Ralph Brown School.

Thanksgiving
by Denise English
Thanksgiving is a great time for
sharing, caring and enjoying. It is lots of fun! It`s spending time with your family and
friends. There is good food and lots of love and caring. It is a great holiday and there
are great things to do. I share lots of love with my animals. I am thankful for good
times, for great teachers that help me learn better, for the clothing and shelter I have,
for very good families and that the World Wars 1 and 2 are over. I am thankful that there
is no World War 3. I am sad for the people who died in the World Wars because they can`t
spend time with their families for Thanksgiving, but they still can share it in their
hearts. I am thankful for freedom, power and life. I just wish that the people who died in
the wars were here to share Thanksgiving with us. |
