Reading With Spirit Week
By Michael Janciw

On February 13- 17 Ralph Brown School had Reading With Spirit Week.

On February 13 we had our first event "Wear a T- Shirt With Writing On It Day". All the kids and teachers in Ralph Brown were supposed to wear a t-shirt with writing on it. We also were supposed to bring a book from home and share it with a friend for the rest of the day.

On Tuesday February 14 it was "Red is Best" day. We were supposed to wear as much red as possible. A girl and boy from each classroom who wore the most red won a prize. They each got a free book. Another special event for this day was a dance called a Sock Hop. We were able to dance in the hallways with music being piped in from the office.

On February 15 it was "Inside out Day". All the kids were supposed to wear their clothes inside out. At 1:00 p.m. we were able to share a comic strip that we had brought from home.

On Thursday, February 16, it was "Character Day". The kids and teachers were supposed to wear a piece of clothing with a cartoon, fictional or sports character on it. At 1:00 p.m. we got to read a poem to a partner or make a bookmark with a caption advertising a good book.

On February 17, it was "Beach Wear Day". On this day we were to wear clothing that we would normally wear at a beach. At 1:00 we had a teacher swap. A teacher from one class went to another class. The teachers from Primary Ukrainian went to Intermediate English, and Intermediate Ukrainian went to Primary English. Each teacher read to their assigned class. Also throughout the week we had two reading attacks a day. A reading attack is where we have to stop whatever we were doing and start to read for ten minutes even if we were in music, library or phys. ed.

I liked Reading With Spirit week because I liked the activities. I enjoyed the reading attacks because you would never know when they would come. It was fun.

Popcorn Sale
By Anna Dlugosz

In February, room 111 had a popcorn sale. We had one because we needed to raise money for a field trip. The popcorn was selling for .50 a bag. Everyone got a chance to sell it. I even got to go on the intercom because we had to announce the sale. The popcorn sale was neat and exciting. I wish we could do more popcorn sales.

Valentines Day
by Michael Janicw

On Tuesday, February 14, Ralph Brown School had a special valentines event. We had a sock hop. That is where the children in Ralph Brown School were able to dance in the hallways, with music being pipped into the hallways from the office. Children also exchanged valentines and had goodies to eat in their classrooms. I think that all the kids had a lot of fun on this day. Too bad it only comes once a year.

Penpals
by Edward Symchyshyn

Penpals can be fun. Penpals are enjoyable. Our class, Room 109, has penpals from Sansome School in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division. Penpals are fun and you get to write letters, too. Sometimes you'll draw pictures and so will they. Perhaps they might even come to see us!

Fire Prevention Week
by Cindy Van Wellegham

On Monday, February 6, grades 4, 5, 6, 7, met at an assembly in the gym. There was a girl named Lori Clarke. She told us about a time when she was 4 years old and got burned. Paul, the chief of the Fire Department, told us that most severe burns are caused by lighters and matches. Lori said her burns don't hurt anymore however some people do make fun of her.

If any of your clothing catches on fire the first thing you should do is STOP, DROP, AND ROLL! If you get a minor burn which is on a small part of your hand or some area don't put on any cream or ointments! Just put cold water on it.

Going to Ottawa
by Roberta Tesar and Janice Espinola

Our school patrol captain, Eloina Cleodoro, was chosen to go to Ottawa to represent our school in a Patrol Jamboree. Eloina has tried her best to accomplish what's required of her. Eloina says she feels proud of what she has accomplished being our patrol captain. She is also looking forward to her trip. Eloina will be gone from May 24th till May 28th, 1995. We all hope you have fun and remember we'll miss you!

Volleyball Tournament
by Christopher Porter

On February 17, Ralph Brown School participated in the Winnipeg School Division Co-ed Tournament. The tournament was held at Machray School. There were two Ralph Brown teams competing in the tournament. Each team was in a different division. The Ralph Brown Team #1 went undefeated and got first place when they beat Luxton #1 and Dufferin 15-3 , and Machray #1, 15-?. The other Ralph Brown team lost their first game to Luxton #2 15-9, and won their second game against Machray #2 15-7. Even though Ralph Brown Team #2 won one and lost one they still managed a first in their division. The two Ralph Brown teams played each other in the final and team #1 won 15-3. The players who were on team #1 were: Eva Mizaerack, Natalka Romanchysyn, Janice Espinola, Larry Kozyk, Chris Ramos, and Rolly Gonzalas. The players on team #2 were David Pinto, Christopher Porter, David Nakonechny, Ricky Neapew, Nina Rud, Amanda Mages, Melanie Johnston, and Eloina Espinola. The players would like to give a big thank you to Mr. Berger and Mr. Chubey for coaching and giving up their lunch hours for practice.

The Grand Parenting Program
by David Nakonechny

On February 21 students from grade 6 in Ralph Brown School went to Holy Family Nursing Home for The Grand Parenting Program. The students did activities corresponding to Spirit with Reading Week. The students made bookmarks with their Grand Parents. They put different stamps, glitter ribbon on their bookmarks. After the students and grand parents made bookmarks they read books.
