Physical Education

The regular instructional program offers Grade 1 to Grade 3 students three 40 minute gym classes, and Grade 4 to Grade 6 students, three 45 minute gym classes in each six day cycle. In addition, Queenston students may choose to take part in a variety of sports activities

Intramural leagues (Grades 4-6) run throughout the school year. Activities such as touch football, soccer, deck tennis, volleyball, team handball, and softball are offered during recess times on days 2, 4 & 6. Intramurals are optional and each league runs approximately 30 days. Grade 6 students take a leadership role in these activities acting as captains, score keepers, and referees. Students in the intermediate grades (4-6) are also eligible for Interschool teams like soccer, volleyball, speedskating, softball, and the spring Fit Run!

Queenston strives to support at least one community based athletic event each year such as the Terry Fox Run, Jump Rope for Heart, and the Manitoba Marathon.

Terry Fox Run

For the past 18 years, Queenston students have participated in the annual Terry Fox Run in mid September to support Terry’s dream of raising dollars for cancer research. All students in Grades 1-6 participate in a run on the school grounds. This event is both a tribute to Terry Fox, a Canadian hero and a celebration of personal health and fitness.

A few years ago, Mrs. Betty Fox, the Honorary Chairperson of the Terry Fox Foundation, visited Queenston School. She cam to thank students, parents, and staff for their continued support in the annual Terry Fox Run.

We are looking forward to taking part in this year's national school run commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope. It is scheduled for Friday, September 16th.
