CURRICULAR  OBJECTIVES

This project will provide underprivileged students with the opportunity to experience the
cultural and artistic diversity of the Canadian Prairies by interacting with peers along
their journey.  This will be accomplished by the following goals and objectives:

Students will complete the requirements of provincial curricula.
 -complete the virtual prairie tour recommended by the Dept. of Education
-study the culture, geography, agriculture and history of the Canadian Prairies.
 -explore the past, present, and future of the prairies

Students will make meaningful, lasting relationships with peers and adults.
 -keypals throughout Canada before, during and after the journey
 -share prairie travel experiences with Canadian students via the Internet
 -billeting during trip (host schools)
 
Students will develop a sense of pride of the Prairies within which they live.
 -understand the cultural diversity of the Canadian people
-view and share the natural beauty of the Canadian landscape
 -Share the accomplishments of Canada’s past and present heroes/heroines

Integrate the arts through technology.
 -interact with local musicians, artists and writers.
 -perform dramatic “Vignettes of the Prairies”
 -create a Prairie Journey Quilt with patches from participating schools
 -create visual impressions of experiences and landscapes

Students will develop self-confidence and communication skills by interacting with others.
 -video conference with Canadian students and the world
 -interview host students and community members
 -develop personal public speaking skills

Students will appreciate the important role of agriculture in the Prairies.
 -meet Canadian farmers and farm suppliers throughout the journey
 -actually perform farm chores with billeting families
 -explore sustainable development and safety concepts

Students will be billeted by host schools providing a variety of  prairie lifestyles.
 -eat traditional foods of Canada
-experience cultural and recreational activities of the community
 -participate in local games and activities

Develop Gr.5 Social Studies materials to supplement provincial curriculum.
-create a CD Rom sharing the digital and photographic images of the journey
 -create several Interactive Websites
 -create a video library of the journey
