This is a plank dog sled used in the far North of Canada. Plank Dog Sled The plank dog sled looked like a long ladder. Places that wood was not available, the Inuit used whale bones, ivory, baleen, horn ( a stiff substance from the jaw of a whale) or even frozen fish or hides. The dogs that pull sleds were often named after members of the family who had died. They used six to twelve dogs to pull a sled, the strongest one in the front. By Michelle, Vicky, Mark and Nick
