In 1906, the site of Luxton School was purchased on Polson and Luxton Avenues, just west of St. Cross Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  The school was built in 1907 at a cost of $84,661 and contained 14 classrooms with a total enrolment of 338 pupils and eight teachers.

Our school was named after Mr. W. F. Luxton, Winnipeg's first public school teacher.  Mr. Luxton died in 1907.

In 1909, four rooms upstairs were devoted to a Technical High School.  In 1912, St. John's Technical High School was built and the students from upstairs in Luxton were moved over to St. John's on Salter Avenue.

In 1915, eight rooms were added to further enlarge the school and in January 1919, the auditorium was officially opened.  The Junior High students (grades
7 - 9) were moved to St. John's Tech in 1967.  For several years, Junior High students were again  part of the Luxton School student body until June 1999.  In 1989, a new gym was built on the West side of the building.  This has greatly enhanced school and after school program options.  The Junior High students were moved out of Luxton School for the 1999-2000 school year due to an overall decline in enrollment as well as loss of administrative support in the form of a Vice-principal.
