Dear Families, |
|
Thanks to all of you for supporting the boys and girls of Luxton. The attendance at our “Swinging into the Holidays” concerts was record breaking. We were “sold right out” and had standing room only. The Parent Council sold every cookie at the bake sale table and many children will be receiving Luxton School t-shirts as gifts. Most importantly, the children entertained beautifully. They sang, danced, and made music. They ran the lights, sound and managed the stage. They introduced their performances and they helped us pack it all up at the end of the night. And they did it for you. We hope that you enjoyed their holiday concert gift.
The cadets have had a busy month. They slept over during the frosty weather and raised funds for the Christmas Cheer Board by carolling in the neighbourhood. Two of the cadets have been promoted to Patrol Sergeant, Congratulations to Kiana and Travis. They are the first of any member of the Winnipeg Police Cadet Corps to earn this rank. Luxton Cadets were honoured to be invited to meet the new Winnipeg Police Chief, Keith McCaskill. We could not be more proud. Thanks for all your work, Sergeant and Mrs. Homer.
In class, grades 4, 5 and 6 students and teachers have been working on “hands on” math problems. The Submarine Sandwich Problem was a tough one. We enjoyed hours of learning and laughter as we discovered which group ate more of the sandwich. Ask your child all about it. In January, the Nursery through Grade 3 teachers will also be working on Mathematics together. |

In the gym, we have concluded our intramural Soccer league. Students practiced their skills and enjoyed the exercise. They refereed the games and kept score. They were all winners. In Co-ed Volleyball, Luxton hosted two tournaments and our Green Team will be playing in the finals.
On the playground, we are equally as active. We want recess to be fun for all. We have at least ten adults supervising. Each day, we remind the students to keep their hands and feet to themselves, use kind words to solve problems and get the help of an adult, if the first two strategies fail. With all the snow, the sliders are out in full force. We are fortunate to have just enough hill in our yard for sliding. They have a blast.
The Parent Council Lunch Program is running at full capacity. If you are interested in working an hour a day in the program contact Mrs. Hooper through the school office. Please help out by sending your child’s lunch already warmed in a thermos. Microwaving dozens of lunches takes so much of the precious lunch hour. By using a thermos, your child can be more independent, eat sooner and the lunch program staff will have more time to interact with the children.
Happy New Year to all our families. We look forward to seeing all the boys and girls safely back in school on Monday, January 7, 2008.
