Dear Families, |
|
We continue to learn about sustainable development. During the month of November, our students learned about paper. Did you know that for every 900 kg of paper recycled we save 26,500 litres of water? Making paper uses our precious trees and our clean water. We are trying to help by sending school notes to the oldest child in your family who attends Luxton. By using this letter carrier system it means duplicating 200 notes instead of 280. As well, we are thinking of ways to streamline the number of notes that come to you from our very active school community. Check the newsletter for a notice about the Parent Council Bake Sale to be held prior to the Winter Concert. Thanks goes out to the Room 20 Green Team for all their recycling efforts, to Room 15 for their recycling posters and to Room 8 for their composting. In December, we will be learning about how to have a greener holiday season.
Preparations are underway for the “Swinging into the Holidays” Concert. There will be two performances December 13, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. If you are able to attend in the afternoon please consider doing so. The afternoon would also be a good time to bring grandparents or extended family. By offering an afternoon performance we are trying to reduce the number of folks in our gym in the evening. If you can, come to the afternoon performance. You will probably get a better view of the children!
Thanks to the parents and guardians who joined the teachers for Parent Teacher Conferences. We had a school turnout of 92% of all families. Conferences are among the best tools for communicating student learning and they are a great way to build a home-school partnership.
Parents really do make the difference at our school. The Luxton School Cadets are more than 30 students strong due to the hard work of Mr. Homer. The Scholastic Book Fair was a success, coordinated by Mrs. Hooper and her hard working volunteers. Students enjoyed another Hot Lunch thanks to Mrs. Bowen-Lee and her loyal volunteers. We are blessed to have such grass roots support from our community.
The last day of classes before the Winter break is Friday, December 21, 2007. Classes will resume on Monday January 7, 2008. Please join the Parent Council at the next meeting on January 29, 2008.
The dedicated staff of Luxton School wish you a season of joyful family time and a peaceful New Year.
