I have the 1954-55
and 1955-56 Luxton Livewire. I
went to Luxton for grades 5,6 and 7. I quite enjoyed
going through the books. looking at faces I haven't
seen for 50 plus years Memories of Mrs. Babb came
through quite clearly. though. Especially the wed
collection.
Just thought I would add my name to the list just
in case someone I know is browsing through the names.

I have many fond memories of Luxton School - Suzuki violin program (I could
play a mean Manitoba Hot Dog) - my favorite teacher Mr. Simmons (even though
I gave him such a hard time) - my first dance (Friday night at the CC) -
playing ringette for the Falconettes - and many, many more!Unfortunately, I
didn't see any students at the 100th that were in my class but I did get to
chat with some old teachers and my old principal (Charlie Brown) whom I saw
quite often - not by choice. I really wanted to see Mr. Simmons (I have to
return one of his bean bags).

Wish I was able to make the 100th Anniversary, but I was there for the
75th. Living in Kelowna, BC now with my son, Jordan who is now 11. I
remember my 7th party, Miss McWhirter was invited to my party and I still
remember what she gave me as a present, "Charlotte's Web". I too remember
French with Mlle Lauren, being a part of the patrol team, playing violin in
the early morning, and playing soccer in the field. Great years!

I have great memories of Luxton school and the friends that I made, one person
stands out, he was my best friend growing u. I lived at 116 1/2 Lansdown Ave. He
lived at 93 Lansdown Ave, we would meet early in the mornings to ride our bikes
all over town, play road hockey, get into fights, but most of all just sit and
talk. His name is Mile Kilping. If anyone knows him, tell him John says Hi! My
deepest memory is playing hockey at Luxton Commuinty Center, spent alot of days
and nights there.
I’m hoping someone can help me - On the third floor, in the hallway, there is a
wooden plaque on the wall with a bunch of names on it ( my name is there) can
anyone tell me what it was for?? I'm sorry missed the 100 year party, hopefully
I'll be there for the next party. Contact me though my email address: fourlaws@telus.net

The best and scariest memories that I have is sitting on the BIG HUGE HIGH
platforms where the pillars are. The only teacher I remember is Mrs.
Patterson. The best part of going to school there was that my sister and I are
twins and that’s how the teachers always separated us for the fear of cheating
on tests. Congratulations Luxton School! Roller skating in the school ground
was the best! Going to the corner store to buy jawbreakers and candy at recess
was also a great event. See ya at the BBQ!

I'm writing on behalf of my father who passed away just over six years ago.
Here's a story I remember him telling me. One day he decided it would be
fun to bring a horse to school. The horse belonged to a junk collector that
made his rounds in the neighbourhood. My dad would laugh as he recalled
this story even though he got into quite a bit of trouble over this at the
time. Apparently, he was almost expelled. Dad would of got a kick out of
revisiting Luxton.

I can't believe I only saw one person I was actually in classes with. Martin
Landy...you rock!!
I would like to know exactly when the older kids moved to St. John's. I don't
remember seeing them all the time I went to Luxton. The halls upstairs were
empty and kinda scary.
Where are you people...Daria Bilash, Cindy Hamilton, Susan Kosarych, Bonnie
Cham, Susan Spigelman, Sheryl Sargent, Jerry Terrick, ...my brain won't let me
go on.
I loved Luxton School...Mrs Thexton..Mrs (spelling) Rosniatosky, Ms Spratt, Mrs
Margolis, Mrs (ugh) Fletcher, Mr Fast, grade six teacher was part time also the
vice principal...? Mr Nemish and he had this scary, screamy lady as his other

went to Champlain School for grades 5 & 6. My family then moved to Silver

was in grade 4- Mrs Romanche (sp?). I had Miss Babb for grade 8 and I remember
the red geraniums that lined the windowsills in her classroom. I also remember
Mr Gridley and the winter trek to Kildonan Park and going back to the school for
a sock hop. I can remember practicing speed skating at the park across from the
school and going to the Arena for a speed skating competition. Hope to meet

So good to read all the posts from people that I haven't seen in such a long

until moving out of the area, I still remember the great times we had as kids.
I am tied up for most of the weekend, but I'm sure I'll make it to the school
late Friday night and possibly catch the latter part of the social on Saturday.
To all the kids that lived on or near Polson - you guys were so much fun.
Singing acapello (sic) with the Zbrogs, hanging out with the Klenmans and my
cousin Pat, hide and seek after dark, going to the movies at the Deluxe. Boy,
did we know how to be cool...lol.
Hugs to Linda C., and Lydia B. Ciao to Carlo. Hope to see you during the

that were such an inspiration to me. Miss Mary Reid, Mr. M. McPherson, Mr. Tony

come to mind. After graduating from St. John's I went to the Wpg. Gen. Hospital
School of Nursing ( now the HSC) graduating from there in 1962. I worked at the
WGH for five years and then went to the St. Boniface Hosp. as the Head Nurse on
the EENT ward. Several years later the Geriatric Day Hosp. of the St. B. was my
place of employment. In 1996 I retired and moved to Victoria, BC where my
wonderful husband Tom, of almost 46 years and I presently reside. We have two
beautiful daughters (Erin an RN and Karen MA in Human Resources from RRU) and
are very enthusiastic grandparents to nine terrific grandchildren! We do plan
on visiting Wpg. during the anniversary as we are going to be in Wpg. to take

Dad's story is around the medal He located the other day. This medal was for
soccer. It is about the size of a quarter and has a soccer player on the front
and inscribed with the words Luxton School 1930 and his initials EW on the
back. Dad would like to know if any other medals are around.
The story goes that the soccer team in 1930 went through the league play with no
goal scored against them. In the semifinial the game ended in an one all tie.
The next Saturday it was continue and Luxton won . In the finial no goals were
scored againt the Luxton team. They had won the champonship with only one goal
scored against them all season. Dad said the teachers got together a purchard
the medals for the team member as there was no other recollection. Evan was in
grade eight at this time.
Evans lives in the St James area of Winnipeg. He is looking forward to the

My brother Toby and I both attended Luxton. I look back on
my class photos with great fondness and am happy to see the school hasn't
changed a bit! I am back in Winnipeg (after 25+ years) but can't attend the

I just heard about the anniversary (in a roundabout way) and only wish I could
be there. I am now retired from international teaching and living in New
Hampshire but I will be thinking of all of you as you celebrate and
reminisce. I was in Winnipeg a few years ago, after about a 25 year hiatus and
was able to take a wonderful sentimental journey around the North End. And of
course, Luxton, was on our route. I remember the winter hikes to Kildonan Park
(Miss Babb in her red snowsuit), school dances (not till I became a teacher did
I realize that Mr. Gridley and Mr. Irwin and all the others were there because
they HAD to be and not because they really really wanted to spend more time with
us!), Mr. Gridley's rather unique science room, wonderful art projects, Mr.
Spurl's drama productions. a very small basketball court, Mr. Irwin putting on a
classical record every morning as we entered the building, and of course Miss
Milgrom and her recorders and other efforts to instil in all of us her passion
for music. Too many names to say hello to but I hope you all have a wonderful
time.

kindergarten in 1970 in Mrs. Falconer's class and Cam finished Grade 6 in 1980.
Cam lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Jenny and their 2 daughters and I live

It will be interesting to see how many people attend the May Long Weekend
festivities. My only wish is that my favourite teacher, Mrs. Stefanick, is
still alive and attends. I grew up on Lansdowne Avenue, along with the Munch's,
the Doyle's, the Hendrickson's, the Brauer's, the Pinette's and the Charleton's
(sorry that I can't remember them all). There was always someone to play tag,
red rover or hide & seek. I also remember the brown Jaguar Burton Cummings had
parked on the street the years he lived there and peeking into his window when
he was playing the piano. Of course we got chased away. I look forward to
seeing familiar faces which have aged just like myself!

looking forward to seeing old friends. Many memories have come flooding back -
Miss Nicks and Latin and Math classes, Mr. Woodrow in Grade 6 and the mock

I lived at 128 Luxton and attended Luxton from Kindergarten through Grade 9.
Those were wonderful years filled with many great memories. I will never forget
the teachers and staff and the sense of community at the school, although we
probably didn't realize it at the time. I developed many friendships, some of
which still exist to this day. I also met my future wife there. We will be
celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. Linda (Holmes) and I resided in

I only attended Luxton school for my grade 5 year but it was one of the greatest
years of my life. I have a lot of great memories of Luxton, the Friday night
dances were the best. I remember the Halloween dance when one of the older boys
dressed up with gitch over his tights and a pumpkin on his head. I wonder if he
remembers that. I don’t know who he was. I was there for the 75th anniversary

The K-9 years @ Luxton were so influential. The most inspired teacher of my
life was Angela Thomson in grade 4. One memory is playing "jump the

learned about this celebration this week, April 17th, 07. Lots of memories come
back. Helping in the kindergarten, standing outside Mr. Gridley’s room – lined
up with the others who had disrupted the class, huddling in the cold around the
flag pole on Remembrance Day, assembly – all of us in rows – shortest to tallest
- at the end of the hall in junior high, good friendships. Anyone know the

I attended Luxton until the end of grade 4, then moved to the other side of
Winnipeg, then on to Calgary where I finished school. Just thinking about Luxton
brings back a flood of memories (I was there when the entire school let go a
mass of red balloons with messages for the 75th anniversary). I haven't been
back to Winnipeg for many years and think this would be a great reason to do so.
I have fond memories of Miss Bignell (especially the massage chain after exams:
something that could never fly these days in school) and also the Suzuki violin
teacher, who's name, unfortunately, escapes me. If she's out there and remembers
the little blonde girl with pigtails who quit despite the objections, I've
recently picked it up again and am loving it. Congratulations, Luxton School,

I remember the 75th...huge red balloons filled with our messages...the strict
instructions to hold on to the balloons while sitting in Mlle. Lauren's grade
three classroom...and finally being able to let the balloons sail. Now I feel
100.

I am dying to find out how well that all Luxton's former graduates and teachers
have done over the years. After graduating from Law School in Manitoba in 1977,
I practised full time in Winnipeg before my family (husband, 2 children - 17 and
18 - and I moved to BC in BC in 1995). While I love Vancouver, Winnipeg is
still my first home. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

I hope to join you in May. I have fond memories of many of the teachers who inspired me...Mrs. Chaza (sp?), Mrs. Fletcher, Mr. Cochran, Mrs. Kellington, Mr. Legero, Mr. Tinsley and Ms. Babbs.

We lived on Bannerman Avenue at the time.
Remember Mrs. Fletcher my grade 3 teacher, she failed me and most of my
classmates as well for another year of grade 3. The original grade 3 teacher
can't remember her name, was too lenient and we had too much fun in class, not
learning much to pass to grade 4. Mr. Cochrane was my grade 5 teacher and I
enjoyed him and his class. He remembered my sister Carol (who has passed
on).Moved after grade 5 to Garden City and went grade 6 to H.C. Avery.

I started Luxton School in Grade 3. It was the
beginning of some of the very best times of my life. The friendships that were
made then, still continue until this day. There are a group of us "Luxton Girls"
who make a point of getting together regularly. Although we're all in our
fifties now, that clock somehow just spins backwards for us when we are together
! I'm looking forward to roaming the halls and walking down memory lane with
friends and our:"old" teachers, too. I hope everyone passes on the word about
the reunion so we have a great response......Luxton deserves it !

I was in grade 6 when the school put on the 75th

school presented. It was a lot of work but everyone loved it. I would love to
see something similar done by the students for the 100th.

attend can leave a message for old friends? Regards to all Old Luxtonians. John
