Mrs. Stormie Duchnycz

Welcome to Lord Selkirk School!

We are located in the heart of beautiful Elmwood and have a population of approximately 235 students.  We are fortunate to have a very diverse population which causes children to be comfortable in being who they are and in proudly demonstrating their culture.  I hope that you will find this to be an informative and interesting website.

I am pleased to be joining the team here and I am very excited about the work that is currently underway. Lord Selkirk prides itself on developing and preparing our students for the future through solid, educational practices and has a school-wide philosophy on "best practices" for assessment of student learning.

We are utilizing new Internet Technology, with "SmartBoards" in each classroom and work with the "Inquiry process." We offer an "Alternative Program" which will ready your child(ren) for "Flex" programs later on.  Our Reading Recovery program assists young students having reading difficulties and ensures reading success.  We also offer many other special programs and activities for students to be involved in.  In March, we will all be involved in a "Multi-Cultural Artists in the School Program" and the planning has now begun. We are looking forward to this.

Our Community Support Worker, Mrs. Kehler, located in Room 7, has been very busy this year and is presently organizing "Family Fitness" evenings. She extends an invitation to you to come in and visit, enjoy a cup of coffee and the Family Room. We are presently updating her brochure so please look for this information coming up.

I believe that every child is a unique individual with their own talents and the desire to succeed. I believe it is our professional responsibility to develop  the individual's potential, ensuring that each child grows intellectually, physically, socially, morally and culturally. Our goal being to enrich the child in preparation for becoming a responsible citizen in a global community. These are exciting times to be an educator, parent and student. It takes a collaborative and interdependent school community to be successful and I believe that, at Lord Selkirk we do this.

Research on improved student learning clearly shows that significant improvement is gained when the school, home, and students share in responsibilities for student learning and success.  As a parent of a child in this school, you are automatically a member of our Parent Council. I encourage you to be involved in our monthly meetings where we discuss many aspects of today's educational process.

Ultimately, the best way to experience our school is to visit, and see us in action. We welcome your interest in our school and in our community and I look forward to our conversations.
