Details:
Create enough number lines on a paintbrush
screen for the numbers your students will be working with. Type a number to the right of
each line and how you want each number rounded off. Save the file on a drive that is
accessible to all students.
This activity will give the students a visual representation of and practice with rounding
off numbers. The students will open Paintbrush and then open the appropriate file. Each
student needs to place a marker on the appropriate spot on the given number lines
according to the numbers on the right hand side of the number line. To make a marker the
students can use the paintbrush tool and a single click in the right spot. Then they need
to circle the correct rounding off of each number using the circle tool.
Extensions: (Literature Links, Further Explorations, etc.)
Have the students fill in the number line numbers themselves. Have students work in groups
of 2 giving each oter numbers to represent on a number line.
Give numbers that will require the students to use number lines that are sectioned. e.g.
6789 and the number line will start at 6000 and go to 7000.
