Description
Students will use a Paint (Windows 95) or Paintbrush (Windows 3.11) program to name the
fraction identified as a shaded part of a figure.
Students will use the keyboard to type the fraction and place it under the correct figure.

This activity is filed in one Paint file,
"fraction1.bmp", and should be filed in a shared,
read-only directory on the server, such as WSD's S:\2Student\.
If you wish to download the image shown below, click on this link fraction1.bmp.
After launching Paint and opening the file, the teacher
should review how to add text. Students can attempt to create a text box right on
the answer line and type their answer there, or can create a text box anywhere in an open
area, type their answer in it, then drag/drop it on the answer line. I find this
easier than trying to create the text box right on an answer line, and it teaches added
skills.
Another file can be created using this file as a template. Simply use the fill
colour tool and fill all the coloured areas with white. Students can then randomly colour
in parts and name their fractions, or can follow the teacher's direction and colour in a
specified fraction of the figure.
