Details:

Students come to the computer lab with a pen and are given the recording sheet flip.pub to record their guesses and answers.  Students open tanpce.bmp  The operations of how to select a certain piece with the cutting tool, and how to return a piece to its original position by using Edit/Undo are reviewed.

This lesson is usually taught when the operations of flip and rotate are being taught in the classroom so that students are familiar with the terms.  Using particular tangram pieces, a demonstration lesson is taught where a tangram piece is selected using the cutting tool. A guess is made as to what will happen when we Flip Horizontal. After students guess it is demonstrated how to record their guess on the recording sheet.   Students are then shown how to go to Images/Flip/Rotate and do the actual Flip Horizontal and record the answer under What Happened.  Students are instructed to using the Edit/Undo command after each operation to return pieces to the original position. The operations on the Recording Sheet are Flip Horizontal/Flip Vertical/Rotate by Angle 90°/Rotate by Angle 180°/Rotate by Angle 270°.  Students are encouraged to work through the activity using the tangram pieces outlined at the top of the recording sheet.  Students will begin to make better guesses as they work through the activity.
