Our target groups are students from Grades 2 to 8, though all are welcome. Senior High School students might want to use the location for a variety of lessons including research, creative writing or as a backdrop for theatre or film productions.
Programs are free of charge to schools in the Winnipeg School Division and are 2 hours in length. For further information and bookings, please call Jerry Lemay, program coordinator at Ecole LaVérendrye.
Available programs, in both French and English, include:
1. A Day in the Life
Recreate a day in the life of an early 20th Century classroom. Stand for the Maple Leaf Forever and God Save the King! Take part in a spelling bee and read through an early Primer. Participate in recess games of the past. Do writing activities with an old-fashioned ink pen and try your hand at early art lessons.
2. Canadian History Plays
Use the Heritage Classroom as a backdrop to discuss and present a selection of short, history plays available in both French and English.
3. Journals
Create journal booklets and recognize their historic importance. Read through selected journal entries relating to the history of the Red River Settlement.
