Greenspace Enhancement is an EXCITING initiative at École LaVérendrye. The students, staff & parents have worked together to create an outdoor classroom & enhance the existing school grounds. During the first phase in March, 2001, we added 3 plant urns, a flower bed & worked in the existing shrub bed at the front of the school. Also, a planter was placed at the South Entrance of the school. In May of 2002, during the second phase, 13 flower and vegetable beds were constructed at the North side of the school. Our outdoor classroom: • is utilized by the staff / students as a learning environment • is enjoyed by the surrounding community • promotes environmental awareness • instills pride / community spirit in area residents • establishes a natural environment for birds / insects to thrive The immediate neighbors of LaVérendrye have been notified of the "changes" in the schoolyard. We have asked for their assistance by keeping a watchful eye on the planters. Any damage should be reported to the school during regular school hours or the Police, as they see necessary. The school has been receiving numerous positive comments regarding the enhancements...Thank You!
