École Laura Secord Choir Awarded the Anne Tate
Memorial Trophy
The École Laura Secord School Choir was awarded the Anne Tate Memorial
Trophy again this year for their performance in the Winnipeg Music Festival on
February 26, 2008. They were judged to be the best of 66 choirs participating in
this particular trophy class. The choir received the trophy in 2007 as well. On
Wednesday March 26, Winnipeg Music Festival President Morna-June Morrow
presented the trophy to the students of École Laura Secord School.




Music Festival 2008
The Ecole Laura Secord Choir performed at the Winnipeg Music
Competition Festival at on Tuesday February 26, 2008 at Westminster United Church. The choir
sang "The
Piper" - text by William Blake and music by Cynthia Gray and "Stopping
by Woods on a Snowy Evening" - words by Robert Frost and music by Vera
Kistler. Lottie Enns-Braun was the accompanist and Penny Mead was the guest
oboist. The
choir was directed by L. J. Weckwerth, assisted by Jackie Cleave. Derek Morphy
was the adjudicator and awarded the choir a gold medal performance rating. Congratulations!

Holiday Concert
The Ecole Laura Secord School Choir and Handbells performed on December 10th
at the annual Gordon Bell Holiday Concert. The choir sang "Candles of
Christmas, Candles of Hanukkah", "Housetop Carol" and "On a
Starlit Night". The Handbell groups performed arrangements of "Good
King Wenceslas", "Do You Hear What I Hear?", "God Rest Ye
Merry, Gentlemen" and "Wassail, Wassail" (Gloucestershire
Wassail).
Music Festival 2007
The Ecole Laura Secord Choir performed at the Winnipeg Music
Competition Festival at 9.30 a.m. on March 15, 2007 at Westminster United Church.
The choir sang "The Trout" by Franz Schubert and "Al Shlosha
D'Varim" by Allan E. Naplan. Lottie Enns-Braun was the accompanist. The
choir is directed by L. J. Weckwerth, assisted by Jackie Cleave.
The choir received a gold medal for its performance and on Friday March 16,
adjudicator A. McIntire selected the Ecole Laura Secord Choir as the best of 66
school choruses (K- Gr 6) and awarded the choir with the Anne Tate Memorial
Trophy.
The Anne Tate Memorial Trophy was donated to the Winnipeg Music Festival in
1986 by a group of friends and colleagues, in memory of Anne Tate, a dedicated
music teacher who passed away in March of 1985. This trophy is awarded for the
most outstanding performance by a School Chorus, Kindergarten to Grade 6.
