Spanish is an ever growing global language, and a fun way to spend an hour a day at school! Learn to communicate in a new language while you learn about new cultures and countries. At Kelvin we offer a range of Spanish courses from beginner to advanced. Learning the basics starts in S1 and S2, continue on in S3 and S4 to learn more advanced ways of communicating in Spanish and increase your confidence in doing so.
Basic Spanish 15G – half credit
Do you want to open your mind to a new language, new people and a variety of cultures? Come learn Spanish! In this course, students will learn to express a variety of basic ideas in Spanish. Oral and written work is required.
Some of the topics we will study include numbers, colours, clothing, sports, occupations, and regular verb conjugations.
Intermediate Spanish 20G- full credit
Open your mind and heart to a new language and culture. This is a beginning as well as a continuing course. Through an immersion setting, this course enables students to develop both comprehension and communication skills. Activities include studying Spanish speaking countries and participation in cultural events.
Some of the topics we will study include traveling, daily activities, health/doctors office, food/restaurants, clothing/shopping, irregular verbs, and past and future tenses.
Advanced Spanish 30S/40S
These courses are a continuation from the intermediate course. They will include the study of Spanish speaking countries, participation in cultural events and work on written and oral communication skills.
Topics studied in these courses are mostly student driven and so they change each year. Some of the topics we have studied in the past have included in depth studies of a particular countries, theater, art, the environment, story and play writing, and music. As well, more advanced grammar is learned throughout the course.
Completing the S4 course provides the skills necessary for further study in Spanish at the post-secondary level.
