CARRIED
Student Report
? Sarah reviewed the following activities and plans:
? CancerCare fundraisers were very successful, both in popularity and funds raised:
? Clip Off - volunteer students and staff had their hair cut as the total raised increased - balding male teachers were clipped first, long-haired students last
? Candy Cane-grams were especially popular
? About $1000 was raised
? Spirit Week - the Student Council is considering spreading Spirit activities over 5 weeks or more to try to get increased participation, rather than having students decide to participate in just one or two activities. This will discussed further at Thursday’s meeting. A box-lunch type food auction (where the successful bidder eat with the person who donated the food) is being considered for Valentine’s Day.
? The PAC request for a wish list will also be discussed Thursday - a large electric griddle for use at breakfasts and other activities is being considered.
Administrative Report
Jim commented on December activities:
? Breakfast for Fort Rouge students went very well - it was a pleasure to see a different side of some Kelvin students as they helped the elementary students
? About 25 Christmas hampers were prepared - some for families with 7 or 8 children - and delivered by Kelvin students and staff.
? A staff lunch and silent auction benefited the food bank
? Class Act took a lot of time, but was well worth it. An excellent showcase of student and staff talent. The gym was packed with students watching the event, which lasted more than 2 hours.
? Response to several questions, following, was requested to aid in the planning for the upcoming information evening for incoming grade 9 parents:
? What information should be presented?
? What attracts people to Kelvin?
? Are the students - especially grade 9 - appropriately challenged?
? Note: Studies have shown that students are prepared to enter university, but they aren’t necessarily prepared to finish - resilience, work ethic are needed.
Financial Report
? Currently $367 in the PAC account - some expenses are still to be paid; the net will be about $270.
